Dr. Abdullah Demir received his B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Computational Science & Engineering from Koç University in 2002 and 2005, respectively. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optics & Photonics from the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at University of Central Florida (UCF) in the USA in 2007 and 2010, respectively. His doctoral research studied quantum dot lasers and vertical-cavity-surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), where he developed the first GaAs-based oxide-free VCSEL currently under development for commercialization in the USA. In 2011-2015, he worked as Senior Scientist and Staff Engineer in R&D groups of semiconductor laser companies (JDSU Corporation and Lumentum LLC) in the USA. His industrial research focused on semiconductor laser chips for kW level high power laser systems and the development of consumer laser products. He worked as a research associate in the Physics Department of Bilkent University in 2016-2017. Currently, he is a European Union Marie Curie Fellow (EU MSCA-IF) at Bilkent University.
