VIMMP project (H2020 GA 760907) workshop: Virtual Materials Market Place

Description: VIMMP is a user-friendly digital marketplace that provides effective use of materials modelling by a wide range of stakeholders facilitating an accelerated speed of development and mar-ket deployment of new materials. VIMMP is a true “two sided” marketplace that promotes exchange between providers and consumers of products and services. The target is to promote easily access to state-of-the-art Soft Matter Simulation Tools for novel product developments. A remarkable compo-nent of VIMMP is the translation router for connecting users to experts so called translators. With the guidance of the translators VIMMP will facilitate the translation of a scientific problem into modelling workflows ready for simulation using a range of software tools and VIMMP components. Among the main achievements of project are the VIMMP ontologies, the development of translation router ontol-ogy driven, collection of stakeholders feedback for the business plan, data storage architecture of VIMMP including search and metadata ingest. Within VIMMP project the Industrial relevance and requirements based on real life user cases is ensured via one SME and two large manufacturing companies test cases representing four industrial sectors:

  1. Emulsions - food emulsions
  2. Complex/structured fluids - personal care liquid
  3. Polymer composites – tire compounds
  4. Corrosion inhibitors - Polymer corrosion inhibitors in metalworking fluids and paints & coatings

This workshop aims to present and provide a discussion regarding elements and components to be present in open Marketplaces as VIMMP to facilitate innovation in materials manufacturing in-dustries (large and SME) and to contribute to the growth related to the Digital Single Market. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation pro-gramme under grant agreement No 760907.

VIMMP invites authors from academia and industry to submit high-quality papers on topics which include, but are not limited to:

Description: Manufacturing industry is putting more and more complicated materials and material systems onto the market. These are new semiconductor materials, composites, organic semiconductors, and many other ones. Knowing the electromagnetic parameters of these materials are the basis for product development. The effective extracted material parameters are used in microwave simulations and design but also, the spatially resolved material measurements are required to progress the material science. This workshop will show recent developments in highly precise material measurements for bulk materials and measurements with spatial resolution down to 20nm. The workshop includes live presentations of material measurement systems.

Symposium 1: When size, shape and orientation of nanoparticles matter

Description: In a large number of applications, the size, shape and orientation of nanoparticles are crucial parameters to obtain the desired properties. This includes catalyst particles of controlled activity, quantum dots that exhibits selected optoelectronic properties, metallic nanoparticles whose plasmonics drives the optical response. A one-day session of the Nanotech Conference will be devoted to the issue, opened by two invited conferences. Andrea M. Rossi (National Institute of Metrological Research, Italy) will focus on metrology in science and Gianmario Martra (University of Torino) will show how catalytic properties of nanoparticles depend on their crystallography.

In addition, two abstracts will be selected among those that will be submitted in the framework of this one-day session. Their authors will be invited to give an invited keynote presentation during the afternoon of the day.  Inscription fees will be waived for those authors. To help the selection of the abstracts, authors are required to send a very short CV of less than 400 characters.

Symposium 2: Mathematical Modelling in Nanotechnology and Nanofluids

Description: Mathematical modelling in nanotechnology and nanofluids constitute emerging areas of research where analytical and computational tools and techniques from the mathematical sciences are used to investigate problems in nanotechnology and nanofluids. Modelling can generate important new insights into complex processes, and reveal optimal parameters or situations that might otherwise be difficult or costly to obtain, especially through experimentation. The ability to predict the performance of nanomaterials under various conditions can lead to successful development of nanoscale devices for applications, such as clean energy and medical technology. This session aims to gather mathematicians, engineers and scientists who are interested in learning and discussing the latest development and new directions in the use of mathematical formulation and computational approaches to enhance the properties of nanomaterials in various applications. The programme of this session will showcase the state-of-the-art of this fundamental field of research with international experts and participants will have the opportunity to present their most recent advances in the field.

Symposium 3 on Nanocoatings/ Thin films and nanostructured surfaces

Description: The symposium topics will include, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Fundamentals, processes of deposition, characterisation and applications of nanocoatings and thin films
  • Surface nanoengineering reactive surfaces, Colloidal assembly, Colloidal stabilization in complex media
