Speaker's Details

Prof Jean-Francois Pierson

‎Institut Jean Lamour / Mines Nancy / University of Lorraine, France

Jean-François Pierson has obtained his PhD degree from the National Polytechnical Institute of Lorraine (France) in 1997. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Franche-Comté (France) from 1999 to 2005. He joined the National Polytechnical Institute of Lorraine in 2005 as Associate Professor. Since 2012, he is Professor at the University of Lorraine (School of Mines of Nancy), France. His research is conducted at the “Institut Jean Lamour (UMR CNRS 7198)” and he is the head of the Functional Thin Films group. This group possesses a long term expertize on the synthesis by plasma-assisted methods and characterization of oxide, nitride and nanocomposite thin films. A strong focus is made on using physical vapor deposition (PVD) methods for the synthesis of new phases and/or microstructures and on their microstructural and/or chemical characterization down to the atom scale. Recently, the group has developed new approaches for the synthesis of nanostructured coatings for optoelectronic and energy applications.
