Prof. Jake Kaner

Jake Kaner is a Professor in the School of Art and Design at the Nottingham Trent University. As Associate Dean for Research he is responsible for all research groups within the School, which includes the Advanced Textiles Research Group led by Prof Tilak Dias, a renowned world expert on e-textiles. He was a panel member of the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF14) and is also a panel member for the UKREF21 which has an expected annual budget of £2B.

Jake is currently supervising a PhD on the use of sensors in the smart habitat for the older persons, where sensors are embedded in upholstery and wearables to detect and monitor a number of functions. Jake leads a working group for the COST Action CA16226 Smart Habitat for the Elderly, which focusses on the interior environment to improve lives of older persons. He received a PhD from Brunel University in 2001 and has supervised doctoral students in areas from furniture to the smart habitat
